The Kwara State College of Education Model Secondary School, Ilorin was established by the Management Board of the College of Education, Ilorin under the able leadership of the provost Dr. Toyin Akanbi, on the 25th day of September, 1997.
A provisional letter of approval for the establishment and running of the College by the Ministry of Education Headquarter Ilorin, on the 25th day of September, 1997.
The actual opening of the college and commencement of lessons was on Monday, 12th of January, 1998. The pioneer principal and still the incumbent of the school was Mr. Abubakar Laaro Ibrahim, NCE, B.Sc(Ed), M.Ed. PGDE. He was assisted by the following teaching member of staff:
The school population at inception was thirty (30) boys and twenty four (24) girls, a total of 54 students.
Among other objectives of establishing the Model Secondary School, were to bring Western Education nearer to the communities, to serve as preparatory stage for admission into tertiary institution for the people of Adewole Housing Estate, Saw Mill Area and its environs.
The major subjects started off with on the curriculum were Mathematics, Integrated Science, Business Studies, Social Studies, PHE, French, Arabic and Yoruba. Presently, they offer the following subjects.
At the Junior Secondary Classes: Mathematics, English Language, Intro-tech, Social Studies, Agricultural Science, French, Fine Art, IRS, CRS Business Studies, Computer Studies, Yoruba, Home Econs, Arabic and Physical Education.
At the Senior Secondary Classes, these subjects were offered: Mathematics, English language, Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Econs, Commerce, Technique Drawing, Home Management, Further mathematics ,Literature in English, Government, IRK, CRK, Fine Art, PHE, Yoruba, Arabic, French and Accounting/Bookkeeping.
The University Graduate Teachers were (26), Holders of HND (2). The teachers with NCE were (6), Holders of Ordinary Diploma was on the whole (6) teachers were without teaching qualification.
The admission catchments areas include the following communities of Adewole Estate Adeta, Saw-Mill Oko-Erin, to mention a few.
The Kwara State College of Education Management is the sole proprietor. It provided the essential equipment, infrastructural facilities, science equipment, sporting equipment, built the present science laboratory, the school examination hall, to mention only a few.
